The trade delegation announcement coincided with new reports that India, an important consumer of Iranian oil, had eclipsed China for the first time as Iran’s No. 1 petroleum customer last month, subverting efforts by the United States to persuade other countries to find non-Iranian sources for their energy needs or risk onerous penalties under a new American sanctions law.

The announcement also came ahead of a planned visit to India by Herman Van Rompuy, the European Union president, who was quoted in an interview with The Times of India as saying that he intended to seek the Indian government’s help in pressing Iran to give up its nuclear program.

It was unclear whether Mr. Rompuy knew at the time of the interview that India’s commerce secretary, Rahul Khullar, was about to announce a big economic push into Iran that could serve to counteract the effects of the very sanctions Mr. Rompuy has helped to promote.

“We will be mounting a mission to Iran at the end of the month to promote our own exports,” Mr. Khullar told reporters in New Delhi, according to Indian and Western accounts of his news conference. “A huge delegation will be going.”

In what amounted to a rejection of an underlying motive in the American-European sanction effort, Mr. Khullar said India already was honoring the four rounds of United Nations sanctions aimed at dissuading Iran from its uranium enrichment program....

The Mujahedeen e-Khalq is being trained, armed, and funded by Israel to carry out terrorist attacks on Iran

Israel has financed, trained, and armed Iranian dissident groups in order to carry out terrorist attacks on Iranian soil, according to top U.S. officials .

The group, Mujahedeen e-Khalq (MEK), is designated as a terrorist group by the United States and is accused of carrying out terrorist attacks in the past, including on American citizens. With the help of Israel, MEK has carried out five assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists since 2007 and may have destroyed a missile research and development site.

U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Obama administration knows of the assassination campaign but has no direct involvement. However, there has been a big money push by many influential people in Washington to get MEK removed from the State Department’s terrorist list , presumably to make them eligible for U.S. funding.

The Iranians have made these allegations of Israeli terrorist attacks carried out by MEK for quite a while, but only now does it have confirmation from U.S. officials. Mohammad Javad Larijani, a senior aide to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a recent interview with NBC News claimed they knew Israel was funding MEK, sharing intelligence, and training them inside Israel in the use of motorcycles and bombs.

The Iranians say much of their intelligence on this matter has come from interrogations with an MEK member that carried out one of the assassination attempts. The MEK has denied these allegations, issuing a statement calling them “absolutely false.”

Even if its true, as U.S. officials insist, that Washington has no involvement in these terrorist attacks, they do support Israel through unmatched economic aid, arms sales, and diplomatic support. As Larijani recently told NBC News, if America, Israel’s closest ally, is aware of this terrorism, “the United States has an obligation…to push Israel not to do it” and “to pursue it, like pursuing us, at the United...

Arab League report leaked: slaughter in Syria is work of ‘foreign-backed subversives’

A report by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) based on a one month inquiry by 160 monitors failed, as Pepe Escobar reports in the Asia Times, to conclude that:

… the “evil” Bashar al-Assad government is indiscriminately, and unilaterally, killing its own people, and so regime change is in order.

So the report was either ignored (by Western corporate media) or mercilessly destroyed – by Arab media, virtually all of it financed by either the House of Saud or Qatar. It was not even discussed – because it was prevented by the GCC from being translated from Arabic into English and published in the Arab League’s website.

Until it was leaked. Here it is, in full

The report is adamant. There was no organized, lethal repression by the Syrian government against peaceful protesters. Instead, the report points to shady armed gangs as responsible for hundreds of deaths among Syrian civilians, and over one thousand among the Syrian army, using lethal tactics such as bombing of civilian buses, bombing of trains carrying diesel oil, bombing of police buses and bombing of bridges and pipelines.

… So the current “Arab-led drive to secure a peaceful end to the 10-month crackdown” in Syria at the UN is no less than a crude regime change drive. Usual suspects Washington, London and Paris have been forced to fall over themselves to assure the real international community this is not another mandate for NATO bombing – a la Libya. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described it as “a path for a political transition that would preserve Syria’s unity and institutions”.

This must be the question over which the political, military and psychological warfare planners are wracking their brains in the key global power elite decision-making centres in New York, London, Tel-Aviv and Washington….

No, I’m not referring to the State Department, Pentagon, White House, Congress and their counterparts in Britain and Europe. Those folks just take their orders and execute them.

I’m referring to the real decision-makers at Bilderberg, Trilateral Commission, Council on Foreign Relations and AIPAC (American Israeli Public Affairs Committee) meetings.

And if the governments don’t come to any solution well then, as Baby Bush used to say, “All options are on the table”.

At least that’s what militant pro-Israeli Zionist Andrew B. Adler – owner and publisher of the “Atlanta Jewish Times” – recommends in an article published on page 3 of his newspaper on January 13.Adler wants Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to act now against Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, either severally or jointly; and to:

1. “Order a pre-emptive strike against Hezbollah and Hamas.”

2. “…Order the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities at all costs”

3. “Give the go-ahead for US-based Mossad agents to take out a President deemed unfriendly in order for the current Vice-President to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies”

This is fraught with not only a regional conflict but a humanitarian catastrophe in the entire Middle East as well. This is a threat to international stability.”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday that as of March 2012 Tehran will increase its military spending by more than two-fold. Meanwhile, US strategic bombers have already been deployed in Qatar in a sign that a military operation of Western countries and Israel against Iran may be in cards.

In the aftermath of the signing of the NDAA by the traitorous President Obama, some citizens remain completely hoodwinked by the language of the bill, running around the internet screaming that the law “does not apply to American citizens.”

This is, naturally, part of the side effect of having such a dumbed-down education system where people can’t even parse the English language anymore. If you read the bill and understand what it says, it clearly offers absolutely no protections of U.S. citizens. In fact, it affirms that Americans are subjected to indefinite detainment under “existing authorities.”

Let’s parse it intelligently, shall we?

First off, the offending section of the bill that used to be called 1031 was moved to 1021. Here is the title:

SEC. 1021. AFFIRMATION OF AUTHORITY OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DETAIN COVERED PERSONS PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF MILITARY FORCE.

The two relevant sections to consider are titled and stated as follows;

(d) CONSTRUCTION. — Nothing in this section is intended to limit or expand the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

By PARSING the language here, we must split it into two sentences based on the “or” operator. This statement essentially means:

• Nothing in this section is intended to LIMIT the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

• Nothing in this section is intended to EXPAND the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

In other words, this section places no limits whatsoever of the “authority of the President” to use military force (against American citizens). Keep that in mind as you read the next...

Exclusive: A torrent of war propaganda against Iran is flooding the American political scene as U.S. neocons and Israeli hardliners see an opening for another war in the Middle East, a momentum that ex-CIA analysts Ray McGovern and Elizabeth Murray urge President Obama to stop.

By Ray McGovern and Elizabeth Murray

President Obama needs to put an abrupt halt to the game of Persian Roulette about to spin out of control in the Persian Gulf. If we were still on active duty at the CIA, this is what we would tell him:

This informal memorandum addresses the escalating game of chicken playing out in the waters off Iran and the more general issue of what can be done to put the exaggerated threat from Iran in some kind of perspective.

In keeping with the informality of this memo and our ethos of speaking truth to power, we may at times be rather blunt. If we bring you up short, consider it a measure of the seriousness with which we view the unfolding of yet another tragic mistake.

The stakes are quite high, and as former intelligence analysts with no axes to grind, we want to make sure you understand how fragile and volatile the situation in the Gulf has become.

We know you are briefed regularly on the play by play, and we will not attempt to replicate that. Your repeated use of the bromide that “everything is on the table,” however, gives us pause and makes us wonder whether you and your advisers fully recognize the implications, if hostilities with Iran spin out of control.

You have the power to stop the madness, and we give you some recommendations on how to lessen the likelihood of...

In the most ancient civilization, Eranshahr (Iranshahr, Iran or well known as Persia), the start of the solar year has been marked to celebrate the victory of light over darkness and the renewal of the Sun or known as The Eve of the Birth of Mithrâ, the Sun God

'Shab-e Chelle', celebrated on 21 December, has great significance in the Iranian (Zoroastrian) calendar. It is the eve of the birth of Mithrâ, the Sun God, who symbolized light, goodness and strength on earth. This night is a time of joy. The Cult of the Sun was first introduced to Iran thousands of years ago by migrant Aryans. Mithrâ, the Sun God remained a potent symbol of worship throughout the following centuries. Over these centuries Mithraism spread to Greece and Ancient Rome via Asia Minor, gaining popularity within the ranks of the Roman army. In the 4th century AD as a result of errors made in calculating leap years and dates, the birthday of Mithrâ was transferred to 25 December.

The last day of the Zoroastrian month ‘Azar’ is the longest night of the year, when the forces of Ahriman, the power of ignorance, are assumed to be at the peak of their strength. While the next day, the first day of the month ‘Day’ known as "khoram rooz" or "khore rooz" (the day of sun) belongs to Zoroastrian God, Ahura Mazda, the Supreme existence of Wisdom. Since the days are getting longer and the nights shorter, this day marks the victory of Sun over the darkness. The occasion was celebrated in the Jashn (festival) of "Daygan" dedicated to Ahura Mazda, on the first day of the month "Day"

In the Atashgah (Fire Temples), Fires would be burnt all night to ensure the defeat of the forces of Ahriman. There would be acts...

A U.S. diplomatic cable made public by WikiLeaks provides evidence that U.S. troops executed at least 10 Iraqi civilians, including a woman in her 70s and a 5-month-old infant, then called in an airstrike to destroy the evidence, during a controversial 2006 incident in the central Iraqi town of Ishaqi.

The unclassified cable, which was posted on WikiLeaks' website last week, contained questions from a United Nations investigator about the incident, which had angered local Iraqi officials, who demanded some kind of action from their government. U.S. officials denied at the time that anything inappropriate had occurred.

But Philip Alston, the U.N.'s special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, said in a communication to American officials dated 12 days after the March 15, 2006, incident that autopsies performed in the Iraqi city of Tikrit showed that all the dead had been handcuffed and shot in the head. Among the dead were four women and five children. The children were all 5 years old or younger.

Reached by email Wednesday, Alston said that as of 2010 — the most recent data he had — U.S. officials hadn't responded to his request for information and that Iraq's government also hadn't been forthcoming. He said the lack of response from the United States "was the case with most of the letters to the U.S. in the 2006-2007 period," when fighting in Iraq peaked.

Alston said he could provide no further information on the incident. "The tragedy," he said, "is that this elaborate system of communications is in place but the (U.N.) Human Rights Council does nothing to follow up when states ignore issues raised with them."

“The right response would have been to go in immediately after it had gone down ,” Cheney insisted, saying that this could have been accomplished either with a ground invasion aimed at “recovering” the lost drone or by bombing the area until the drone was destroyed.

When pressed on whether or not bombing Iran would have “potentially led us into a war with them” in a later interview, Cheney cited the bombing of a Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983, saying that was “Iranian-supported.”

The unspoken answer then is not only would attacking Iran because a US spy drone was lost probably have led to a war with Iran, but that Cheney thought this would be a good idea. He went on to insist it would be a “fairly simple operation.”

#update: Attack in Belgian city leaves 5 dead, 122 wounded

LIEGE, BELGIUM—An official says the death toll in a grenade and gun attack in the Belgian city of Liege is now four, including the attacker.

Liege Prosecutor Danielle Reynders said Tuesday that the dead included a 15-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and a 75-year-old woman. Officials say at least 75 people have been wounded.

La Libre newspaper said one of the wounded is a 2-year-old girl, who is in critical condition.

The attack left blood splattered across the cobblestones of the central area of Liege city, which was crowded with people doing Christmas shopping in nearby markets.

Footage from the scene showed people, including a large group of children, fleeing down the streets of the city centre — some still carrying shopping bags. Ambulances and police vehicles descended on the area.

Officials and the media reports had no information about the identity of the assailant or what could have motivated the attack.

Radio Television Belge Francophone, said all buses had been asked to leave the city centre and all shops in the area were closed, some with many customers stranded inside.

News reports said police helicopters are flying over the city and a medical post has been set up in the courtyard of the palace of the Prince Bishops court house located on the site.

VRT Radio spoke with Herve Taveirne from the courthouse into which he had fled to escape the gunfire.

“We were in the courthouse building and were just leaving when we saw someone toss a grenade,” Taveirne said. “I grabbed a little boy ... and took him back into the courthouse. Outside the building I heard shooting ... Our lives were in danger. This man was shooting in any...

“We’ve asked for it back. We’ll see how the Iranians respond,” Obama said in a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Monday.

The plea comes as the US and CIA refused to adopt an official position after Iran aired footage of the captured unmanned aerial vehicle on December 8.

The US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft was brought down with minimal damage by the Iranian Army’s electronic warfare unit on Sunday, December 4, 2011, when flying over the northeastern Iran city of Kashmar, some 225 kilometers (140 miles) away from the Afghan border.

On December 6, two US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed to CNN that the drone was part of a CIA reconnaissance mission, involving the US intelligence community stationed in Afghanistan.

They claimed the reconnaissance capability of the RQ-170 Sentinel drone enabled it to gather information from inside Iran by flying along Afghanistan’s border with the Islamic Republic.

The RQ-170 is an unmanned stealth aircraft designed and developed by the Lockheed Martin Company.

Iran has announced that it intends to carry out reverse engineering on the aircraft, which is similar in design to a US Air Force B2 stealth bomber.

Tehran says that the US drone spy mission was a “hostile act,” adding that it will lodge a complaint with the United Nations over the violation of its air sovereignty by the intelligence gathering aircraft.

Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Mohammad Khazaei on December 8 called on the world body to condemn US aggressive moves against the Islamic Republic with respect to the reconnaissance drone that violated the Iranian airspace.

The Iranian Army has refused to comment after a member of the country’s National Security Committee said today that Iran was to practice closing the Strait of Hormuz, the most important choke point for oil shipments in the world.

“The legislator, Parviz Sarvari, told the student news agency ISNA: “Soon we will hold a military manoeuvre on how to close the Strait of Hormuz. If the world wants to make the region insecure, we will make the world insecure,” reports Reuters .

The Straight of Hormuz, just 34 miles wide at its narrowest point, is a key transport passage for petroleum exporting countries from the Persian Gulf, with the 15.5 million barrels of oil that pass through it each day representing 33% of the world’s total oil shipments.

The Iranian military refused to comment on the report, but Iran has repeatedly threatened to close the shipping channel in the event of a US or Israeli-led attack, a potential action the United States has characterized as an act of war.

Following speculation that sanctions would be placed on Iranian oil exports, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast warned last week that oil prices would soar above $250 dollars barrel.

In response , US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta stated , “Any disruption of the free flow of commerce through the Persian Gulf is a very grave threat to all of us and a red line for the US.”

Bolton is an irascible attorney who is horrible to his subordinates, makes Rod Blagojevich look like a paragon of truthfulness, played a role in inserting the notorious, forged “yellowcake uranium from Niger” assertion in George W. Bush’s pre-Iraq War State of the Union address, wants to bomb Iran so badly he sometimes just sits in an F-18 and imagines himself over Isfahan; and, worst of all, he has offered moral support to a terrorist organization, which the Supreme Court rather frowns on.

The MEK is on the State Department terrorism list.

Law Professor David Cole pointed out that participants in that conference had potentially broken the law as laid down by Chief Justice John Roberts and by Attorney-General Eric Holder.

Roberts wrote in response to the argument that it should be permitted for American citizens to give good advice even to terrorist groups, as long as they are advocating peaceful approaches:

Such support frees up other resources within the organization that may be put to violent ends. It also importantly helps lend legitimacy to foreign terrorist groups-legitimacy that makes it easier for those groups to persist, to recruit members, and to raise funds–all of which facilitate more terrorist attacks.”

Government officials say as people live longer, current pensions are becoming unsustainable, and that reform is in fact overdue. Some of the kids were still alive and they just poured the dirt in on top of them. Buried them alive.

This mass murder happened in 1943 – not in Nazi held Europe, but in Brantford, Ontario, on land occupied by the Canadian Army, at its Basic Training Camp Number 20.

These words were spoken today on the Native America Calling Radio program by Lorna McNaughton of Oshweken, Ontario: a survivor of the infamous “Mush Hole”, the Brantford Mohawk Indian residential school, run by the Church and Crown of England until 1970.

Why were these children shot? According to Lorna:

The school was overcrowded just then. I was there, I saw the army bring in all these cots for lots of new kids who showed up from all over the country. They must have just wanted to get rid of all the extra hungry mouths; it was wartime and everything was rationed. One day those new kids were in the dorms, then they were all taken out, and we never saw any of them kids again.

A probable site of this mass burial of the executed children has been located, and is now under the protection and jurisdiction of the Onkwehonwe Mohawk Nation and its clan mothers. Surveys and possible excavations will proceed under professional guidance, and according to the protocols of the Onkwehonwe people.

CANBERRA — The new report from the International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program, published Nov. 8, is both preposterous and dispiriting. Preposterous, because the IAEA has reinterpreted "old" facts instead of presenting new evidence. Dispiriting, because the reinterpretation may feed the growing punish-and-bomb Iran frenzy.

In an old Cold War joke, Ronald Reagan and Leonid Brezhnev compete in a two-man race. The Soviet media reports on the results thus: "In an international athletics competition, Comrade Brezhnev came in second; President Reagan was second to last". Technically correct, but a deliberately false representation of the truth.

Similarly, using the same evidence, Mohamed ElBaradei's reports concluded there was no conclusive proof Iran had crossed the weapons threshold. His successor Yukio Amano concludes there is no conclusive proof that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and he "has serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program."

The five NPT-licit nuclear powers have subverted the Non-Proliferation Treaty from a nuclear prohibition into a nonproliferation regime. The only authority for enforcing NPT obligations is the U.N. Security Council. The IAEA is the U.N.'s technical but neutral nuclear watchdog. Nobel Peace laureate ElBaradei successfully protected IAEA independence and credibility during the 2002-03 crisis over Iraq. Washington failed to thwart his reappointment.

When the time came for ElBaradei to leave the IAEA in 2009, Amano was Washington's choice because, according to a U.S. embassy cable, he was believed to be "solidly in the U.S. court on every key strategic decision," including Iran.

“Iran has irrefutable evidence that exposes the official involvement of the United States government in anti-Iran planning and the dispatching of elements to conduct acts of sabotage and terror in Iran and other regional countries,” secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said last week , promising to send evidence of “US state-sponsored terrorism” to the United Nations

“We possess one hundred pieces of irrefutable evidence that reveal the US role in directing terrorists for conducting acts of terror in Iran and the region,” Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei added .

Because the story was reported by Iranian state media, the western press received it with a collective shrug of the shoulders. The new IEAE report claiming Iran was on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon was afforded about a thousand times more coverage.

However, the fact that the United States is training and bankrolling terrorist groups to destabilize Iran through violence and other acts of subversion is admitted.

As former CIA veteran Robert Baer explained in the documentary Vanguard: America’s Secret War With Iran , the U.S. has been at war with Iran through its terrorist proxies for years, notably the Kurdish militant nationalist group PJAK, which has been blamed for numerous attacks in Iran.

In the aftermath of last week’s riots in the United Kingdom, the NYPD has held a “mobilization exercise” to train police to prepare for civil unrest in the United States, while also launching a program designed to spot signs of potential trouble via social networking websites.

The NYPD Disorder Control Unit brought together police from all five of the city’s boroughs to rehearse what the response would be “should out-of-control riots break out here”.

“Approximately 180 police officers total from each borough’s task force, including the horseback and aviation units, came out for the drill,” reports the Metro .

However, unlike in the United Kingdom where the rioters mainly comprised of teenage kids taking the opportunity to steal iPods and other high-end electrical goods, civil unrest in the United States is far more likely to have a political motivation.

With many Americans now becoming “pre-revolutionary” as a result of their fury at the Obama administration and equally unpopular lawmakers in Washington, potential civil unrest could spring not just from a poverty-stricken underclass, but also the shrinking middle class.

Perhaps that’s why the Department of Homeland Security is increasingly focusing its anti-terror apparatus on white middle class Americans , portraying them as domestic terrorist in a series of PSA videos.

Precisely as we predicted last month, NATO forces and their Al-Qaeda backed rebels launched a massive assault on Tripoli in order to wrap up the looting and conquest of Libya in time for crucial talks at the UN on Palestinian statehood set to begin in less than two weeks.

On July 8th in an article entitled, U.S. Wants Gaddafi Toppled By September, we reported, “The United States and France have set a deadline of September 2nd to topple Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, with NATO powers ready to inflict a crushing blow if Gaddafi refuses to step down peacefully.”

That crushing blow is now in full effect as reports circulate of well over a thousand dead with thousands more wounded during weekend battles, led by by NATO warships and fighter jets as part of “Operation Mermaid Dawn,”which led to the capture of Gaddafi’s sons as Gaddafi himself reportedly went into hiding.

RAF fighter jets were deployed to attack key regime targets while the media pretended the whole assault was an organic uprising by the Libyan people, endlessly replaying footage of celebrating crowds.

In another report published on July 15, we stated that NATO powers and the rebel army would launch a final bombardment of Tripoli within 6-8 weeks if Gaddafi refused to step down, which is exactly what unfolded just shy of 6 weeks later.

Barack Obama and David Cameron are now busy milking the spectacle with tough talk as if they led the assault personally. In reality, the conquest of Libya represents little more than another act of colonial looting on behalf of the NATO war machine, with Syria the next target in its cross hairs.

Gordon Frazer, Microsoft UK’s managing director, made news headlines some weeks ago when he admitted that Microsoft can be compelled to share data with the US government regardless of where it is hosted in the world.

At the center of this problem is the USA PATRIOT ACT, which states that companies incorporated in the United States must hand over data administered by their foreign subsidiaries if requested.

Obama’s Claims of Afghan Progress Convince No One

The content of President Obama’s Thursday speech surprised no one, after all officials had been promising an upbeat report with claims of great progress for several days before the speech was ever given. But the decidedly non-credible claims appear not to have convinced anyone.

Beyond his inner circle, even allies seem to be steering clear of making any comment related to the claims of progress, and critics are piling on with the fairly obvious complaints about the public report, which stands in such ridiculous contrast to the classified National Intelligence Report and all other reports to come in recent weeks.

Even Taliban spokesmen felt comfortable mocking the claims of progress as clearly in stark contrast to the reality of the ongoing war. Though winter weather will likely lead to a decline in Afghan violence for a few months, most experts are predicting an even worse year of violence in 2011.

The administration’s claims seem to have been designed as a media-friendly collection of sound bites at the end of a disastrous year of war, but topping off such a terrible year of violence with a claim of non-specific progress must inevitably be doing serious damage to their credibility.

TEHRAN - A prominent Iranian nuclear scientist was killed Monday and a second was seriously wounded in nearly simultaneous car bomb attacks in the Iranian capital, the semiofficial Fars news agency reported.

The explosions, which took place near Shahid Beheshti University, are the latest in a string of recent assassination attempts in which five doctors and professors have been killed in Tehran.

Iranian authorities blamed agents of Israel and the United States for the killings, saying they want to cause chaos in the country.

"Undoubtedly the hand of the Zionist regime and Western governments is involved" in the attacks, Ahmadinejad told reporters in a news conference. He said the bombings would not stop Iran from pursuing its nuclear program.

According to Fars, scientists Majid Shahriari and Fereydoun Abbasi were parking their cars in separate locations near the university campus about 7:45 a.m. local time when they were attacked.

Witnesses said each car was approached by a group of men on motorcycles, who attached explosives to the vehicles and detonated them seconds later, the news agency reported. Shahriari was killed instantly. Abbasi was wounded. Both men were with their wives, who were wounded as well.

Abbasi is a high-ranking Defense Ministry official who is involved in Iran's nuclear program. He has been subject to foreign travel restrictions since 2007 for his security in accordance with United Nations Security Council sanctions and is considered a main player in Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile program.

The head of Iran's nuclear energy program, Ali Akbar Salehi, visited Abbasi in the hospital after the bombing and spoke to reporters about the scientists, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Salehi said Shahriari was "in charge of one of the biggest projects" of Iran's nuclear program, the agency said, but it did not specify which program.

The European Parliament urged the United States and the U.N. on Thursday to provide immediate aid to an anti-Iranian Terrorist group camped near Baghdad since the 1980'

In a nonbinding resolution, lawmakers asked the European Union to pressure the U.S. government to take the People's Mujahedeen Organization off the State Department's list of foreign terrorist organizations.

The presence of the Terrorist group — also known as the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq — which fought alongside Saddam during his 1980s war with Iran, has long irritated Iraq's Shiite-led government.

The EU removed the organization from its list of banned terrorist groups last year.

The U.S. military relinquished control over Camp Ashraf and its 3,400 members last June, turning it over to Iraqi forces.

"The U.S. terror label ... and unlawful transfer of Ashraf protection to Iraqi forces both constitute participation in suppression of Iranian opposition (or anti-Iranian group!) and obstruct the way for change in Iran," Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the leading (terrorist) group National Council of Resistance of Iran, said in a statement.

In July, a U.S. federal appeals court in Washington D.C. ordered the State Department to reconsider keeping the mujahedeen on its list, which prohibits it from raising money and obtaining other support in the United States.

The court said the U.S. government must give the group a chance to challenge claims that it continues to engage in terrorist activity or retains the capability and intent to do so.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero moved to dispel the growing anxiety surrounding the country's fiscal position Friday, saying there was "absolutely" no chance the euro zone's fourth-largest economy would seek a bailout from the European Union. But his attempt to calm the markets had little effect, with the euro tumbling and the selloff in Spanish and Portuguese sovereign bonds continuing.

"If we continue to see the recent trend in Spanish bond yields then the crisis is going to be taken to a completely new level, as Spain accounts for approximately 11.7% of euro-zone [gross domestic product] which is pretty much double the figure of Ireland, Portugal and Greece [combined]," said Gary Jenkins, head of fixed-income research at Evolution Securities.

Sparking Friday's markets turmoil was a report in Friday's Financial Times Deutschland, which quoted unnamed German finance ministry officials as saying an aid package for Portugal would reduce the chances that Spain would also need a bailout.

The Portuguese and Spanish governments, the European Commission and Germany's finance ministry all denied the report, saying pressure wasn't being placed on Portugal to seek help. "It's absolutely, completely false—every reference for an aid plan for this country. It has neither been asked for and neither have we suggested it. It is absolutely false," said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, a former Portuguese prime minister.

This morning, with strong lobbying from the United States, Iran's election to the board was blocked. Human rights groups had strongly opposed Iran's election, pointing in particular to the recent & "never proven" death sentence of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani for the crime of adultery & colaboration to kill her husband.

The 54 countries who sit on the UN’s Economic and Social Council did, however, accept the membership bid by Saudi Arabia, where women cannot vote or be elected to high political positions & are forbidden from driving and barred from many public places.

In fact, according to the U.N. Development Program's own Gender Empowerment Measure, Saudi Arabia is actually a worse country for gender equality than Iran. and The World Economic Forum 2009 Global Gender Gap Report ranked Saudi Arabia 130th out of 134 countries for gender parity, only Yemen scores lower than Saudi Arabia.

Iran's candidacy for the 41-member executive board had been part of a slate elected by the Asian region while Saudi Arabia was selected for one of the spots reserved for "donor" nations. Not a particularly auspicious start for an important new body.

The victory of the War Party– … ooops, I mean the Republican Party– at the polls on November 2 was sure to embolden Israeli hawks, since the latter are essentially rightwing Republicans whenever they visit the United States. And, so many of the new members of the House of Representatives are Christian Zionists who appear to believe that Jehovah hasn’t smited the poor Palestinians (I mean Amalekites) sufficiently to ensure the return of baby Jay-sus. More smiting, they say, is in order.

The harbingers of emboldening were clearly visible in Halifax, Canada, when Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak spoke there on Saturday. He decried the ineffectiveness of economic sanctions on Iran in deterring its nuclear enrichment program, making a glib assumption that Iran is a North Korea determined to possess a nuclear bomb. Comically, Barak warned that if Iran did get a nuclear weapon, then everyone in the Middle East would want one, and non-proliferation would be dead.

But of course it is Israel’s own nuclear arsenal that kicked off the arms race in the Middle East, and it is comical for Barak to worry about a Non-Proliferation Treaty Israel never signed and the ideals of which Tel Aviv has wantonly trampled upon. Nor is it true that Israel has a no-first-use policy; it has never announced any such thing. Indeed, its leaders issued only slightly veiled threats to nuke Baghdad at the outset of the Bush invasion of Iraq, were Saddam Hussein to try to send gas-tipped SCUDs at Tel Aviv.

Moreover, while it may be “clear” to Barak that Iran is trying to construct a nuclear...

Gen. Mansourian said Wednesday to the state news agency testing would soon begin. His comments come after Russia banned all sales of S-300 missile systems to Iran, citing the latest U.N. sanctions.

Russia signed a 2007 contract to sell the sophisticated systems that could boost Iran's ability to defend against air strikes. Israel and the United States objected to the deal.

Mansourian also said that the military has locally-built missiles that allow the country to defend its airspace.

This month’s upcoming P5+1 talks with Iran look poised to end in quick and perhaps predictable failure tonight as reports grow that the Obama Administration is planning to demand Iran accept a dramatically worse version of the same offer he made last year, which Iran accepted and then the US angrily reneged on.

But according to France the whole world, or at least the whole P5+1, is “united” behind the US offer and that there is absolutely no disagreement on the terms of the upcoming demand, which would demand that the Iranian government turn over 2,000 kg of uranium for production of fuel for its medical isotope reactor.

But Iran has already rejected the deal, and it isn’t hard to see why. The old deal, which involved 1,200 kg being turned into fuel would’ve given Iran many decades of fuel for an aging reactor that may not have that many years left. Iran was willing to accept the deal for more than they needed or wanted primarily as a confidence-building move.

But the mood is decidedly less conciliatory today , after Iran agreed to the old 1,200 kg deal and the US pulled the rug out from under it, then angrily demanded (and got) more anti-Iran sanctions because the deal never happened. 2,000 kg is a riduclous amount of fuel for the nearly half-century old reactor, and Iran is likely to meet the offer with added skepticism that even if accepted it will only be stalled again, and replaced with an even worse deal in 2011.

Earlier this year, Lindsey Williams told Alex Jones the globalists would devalue the dollar and jack up the price of oil.

Both are now happening.

On Thursday, in response to the Federal Reserve’s announcement that it plans to monetize the debt and increase the money supply, economists and market strategists warned that the sickly U.S. dollar is now at risk of crashing and consumers will soon be hammered with higher prices.

“Consumers should prepare for another turn of events like the spring of 2008, when oil prices soared to $147 a barrel and gas at the pump was more than $4 a gallon,” Axel Merk , chairman and chief investment officer of Merk Investments, of Portland, Maine, told CNBC.

Oil futures reached $87.22, the highest price in more than two years, Bloomberg reports this morning.

Merk said the Fed’s plan for inflation will show up at the gas pump. “We’re not going to get wages to go up. We’ll get the price at the gas pump to go up instead,” he said.

The Fed’s Q2E plan is being roundly condemned. China, Germany and Brazil are warning that the plan to inject more than $600 billion of funny money created out of thin air into the economy will have disastrous consequences. It will send money flooding into their markets seeking higher returns and that will drive up exchange rates and hamper exports by making their goods more expensive.

China’s central bankers are not ebullient. “If the domestic policy is optimal policy for the United States alone, but at the same time it is not an optimal policy for the world, it may bring a lot of negative impact to the world. There is a spillover,” said Zhou Xiaochuan , governor of the People’s...

Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel,” he said in his weekly Saturday night sermon on the laws regarding the actions non-Jews are permitted to perform on Shabbat.

According to Yosef, the lives of non-Jews in Israel are safeguarded by divinity, to prevent losses to Jews.

“In Israel, death has no dominion over them...
Iran said through the Oil Ministry's Petroenergy Information Network that Masoud Mir Kazemi, the country's oil minister, will fill the rotating presidency of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries starting in January.

The energy information network said the "economic situation of the different countries including industrialized countries, developing countries, oil stocks and oil prices were reviewed" during the latest OPEC meeting.

This not only causes the vast majority of the U.S. delegates to leave the hall in disgust, but it also causes the Main Stream Media to go into fits of panic as the news spreads that someone has the guts to stand up in the United Nations and say that the American Administration, under former President George W. Bush, committed the world’s worst ever terrorist atrocity against their own citizens, and not only that, but that the majority of Americans know that they did it.

Harrowing details of some 300 cases of alleged sexual abuse by Roman Catholic clergy in Belgium have been released by a Church investigator.

Peter Adriaenssens said cases of abuse, mostly involving minors, had been found in nearly every diocese, and 13 alleged victims had committed suicide.

Two-thirds of victims were boys, most of them aged below 15, but 100 girls also suffered assaults, he said.

No evidence of a systematic Church cover-up was found, he added.

Bishops had changed their views since working with the commission and had not seemed to realise the implications of their past decisions, the investigator said.

Belgium has been shaken by revelations of abuse this year.

In April, the Bishop of Bruges, Roger Vangheluwe, resigned and admitted to having sexually abused a boy before and after becoming a bishop.

Mr Adriaenssens was speaking 10 weeks after his commission's files were seized by police investigating sexual abuse by clergy.

He shut down the commission at the time, accusing prosecutors of having used it as "bait".

An appeals court ruled on Thursday that the police raids had been illegal and documents seized could not be used by prosecutors.

The Catholic Church in Belgium is due to announce on Monday how the commission's investigations may be continued.

'Abused aged two'

The commission was never able to finish its enquiries but even so its findings make grim reading, the BBC's Jonty Bloom reports from Brussels.

It reveals that abuse was at its worst in the 1960s when...

In his latest column for the New Statesman, John Pilger traces the history of propaganda to Edward Bernays, the American nephew of Sigmund Freud, who invented the term "public relations". Bernays believed in "engineering public consent" and creating "false realties" as news. Here are examples of how this works today.

Edward Bernays, the American nephew of Sigmund Freud, is said to have invented modern propaganda. During the first world war, he was one of a group of influential liberals who mounted a secret government campaign to persuade reluctant Americans to send an army to the bloodbath in Europe. In his book, Propaganda, published in 1928, Bernays wrote that the intelligent manipulation of the organised habits and opinions of the masses was an important element in democratic society and that the manipulators constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power in our country. Instead of propaganda, he coined the euphemism public relations.

The American tobacco industry hired Bernays to convince women they should smoke in public. By associating smoking with women's liberation, he made cigarettes torches of freedom. In 1954, he conjured a communist menace in Guatemala as an excuse for overthrowing the democratically-elected government, whose social reforms were threatening the United Fruit company's monopoly of the banana trade. He called it a liberation.

Bernays was no rabid right-winger. He was an elitist liberal who believed that engineering public consent was for the greater good. This was achieved by the creation of false realities which then became news events. Here are examples of how it is done these days:
